LOGAN — A 20-year-old Logan man has been arrested for violently raping his roommate, according to law enforcement. Santiago Pedraza-Luna was booked July 6 into the Cache County Jail after Logan City Police were called to his apartment.

Pedraza-Luna was arraigned Monday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court. He was charged with rape, a first-degree felony; and aggravated assault producing a loss of consciousness, a second-degree felony.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of up to life in prison, if convicted.

Cache County Deputy Attorney Aaron Jossie explained how the alleged victim claimed Pedraza-Luna had strangled her, causing her to black out. She later woke up to find the suspect allegedly raping her.

Jossie asked the court to deny Pedraza-Luna any bail based on the severity of the charges.

Judge Angela Fonnesbeck ordered Pedraza-Luna to remain behind bars and appear again in court July 21.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
