OGDEN, Utah – Several members of Utah State’s track & field program made the most of their final tune-up before heading to the 2016 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships next weekend.
The Aggies collected 10 top-five finishes at the Weber State-hosted Twilight Meet on Wednesday at Stewart Stadium. Senior Parker Bluth highlighted Utah State’s showing at the meet by placing first and tying his own school record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.52. Fellow senior Nic Bowens took third in the event with a 21.01 clocking.
“We wanted to get a final tuenup for a few key people and have some people run in events they haven’t run in yet,” veteran head coach Gregg Gensel said. “We had some great results. We had a new relay team that ran the 4×100-meter in 39.50.”
Also on the men’s side, junior AJ Boully and senior Cole Lambourne finished one-two in the 400m with a times of 46.43 and 46.88, respectively. Boully’s time moves him into fourth place all-time in school history.
“AJ and Cole ran some pretty fast 400s and then of course, Parker and Nic ran some fast 200s today,” Gensel said. “It was what we were looking for and they did a great job. It was the final tune-up that we wanted to see from some of our athletes before the outdoor championships next week.”
Utah State’s 4x100m relay team consisting of Bluth, Bowens, freshman Chance Parker and sophomore Brady Martin took first in the event with a school-record time of 39.50. Freshman Samuel Wing placed first in the 400m hurdles with a personal-best time of 54.36, while fellow freshman Leaugen Fray tied for second in the high jump with a leap of 2.01m (6-07.00).
On the women’s side, freshman Whitney Wilcox placed first in the 400m with a personal-best time of 56.32 and she helped anchor the 4×400 relay team, which also consisted of senior Kaitlyn Wilcox, junior Brittany Rawlins and sophomore Breann Bate, that took first with a time of 3:47.56.
Rawlins also competed in the 100m and took second with a time of 12.38.
The Mountain West Outdoor Championships will be held in Fresno, Calif., on May 11-14, just 11 days before the First Round of the NCAA Championships in Lawrence, Kan., on May 26-28.
