SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A new round of state school rankings finds about half of Utah’s public schools earn a B grade.

This year’s findings are similar to those from the year before.

About 45 percent of the state’s high schools got a B grade. The same portion of elementary and middle school earned the grade.

This year, lawmakers dropped a provision that gave schools an automatic F if they didn’t test 95 percent of their students.

Lawmakers set up a system four years ago to assign A through F letter grades to schools based largely on student test scores.
