LOGAN — A 57-year-old Syracuse man died in a hunting accident at White’s Ranch in Paradise.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Mike Peterson said Norman E. Newbold was hunting with a group, on the Sportsman’s Paradise hunting club Tuesday afternoon.

While trying to shoot at some pheasants, one of the men in the group slipped in the mud and accidentally fired his 12-gauge shotgun at Newbold, striking him in the back.

Newbold immediately collapsed. The three other hunters administered first aid and called 911 for assistance.

Medical crews transported Newbold by ambulance to Logan Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

A Life Flight helicopter also responded to the scene but Newbold was never stable enough to transport by air.

Peterson said all evidence indicates the death was a tragic accident and no charges are being considered.

The hunting club is the same location where a 60-year-old Paradise man was shot earlier this year. In that instance, a hunting guide was accidentally shot and transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
