LOGAN – Because most ranching operations in Utah take place on public lands instead of private ranches, Utah State University has launched a bachelor of science degree in ranch management economics.
The new curriculum in the school’s Department of Applied Economics focuses on knowledge in rangeland ecology, natural resource management and animal science, blended with agribusiness and economic tools.
USU’s Applied Economics Department Head Ryan Bosworth said the new degree is unique in Utah and nationally because it is a rare undergraduate program which meets the needs of the Intermountain West.
USU conferred with those who manage some of Utah’s large ranches in designing the program and will rely on these ongoing partnerships to insure that the curriculum stays relevant.
