LOGAN — A warrant has been issued for a 43-year-old Logan man after an FBI investigation uncovered child sexual abuse material on his cellphone. Tyler James Funk, who has an extensive criminal history, faces seven second-degree felony charges for sexual exploitation of a minor.
According to the arrest affidavit, the investigation began in February 2025 when an FBI special agent tracking online child exploitation on the BitTorrent network downloaded multiple video files depicting the sexual abuse of female children. Through an administrative subpoena to Comcast, authorities traced the suspect IP address to a residence in Logan.
When federal agents executed a search warrant at the home in April 2025, they found no child pornography. The homeowner and her daughter provided GPS data and flight records proving they were vacationing in Puerto Rico when the illicit files were downloaded. However, they informed law enforcement that Funk, who was the homeowner’s boyfriend at the time, had access to the residence and its wireless internet to feed their dog while they were away.
On June 18, 2025, federal agents executed a search warrant on Funk and an apartment he shared with his mother in Logan. Funk consented to the search, and agents seized an HP laptop and a cellphone found on his person.
A forensic examination of the devices was completed in April 2026. The forensic report identified seven distinct image files cached on Funk’s cellphone. Investigators say the images depict prepubescent children being sexually abused and raped.
According to the affidavit, Funk has a significant criminal history, including previous offenses for kidnapping, domestic violence, stalking, drug violations, driving under the influence, and violating protective orders. He is currently on probation under the supervision of the Cache County Sheriff’s Office.
Due to the severe nature of the child exploitation charges and Funk’s extensive criminal history, the Cache County Attorney’s Office requested an arrest warrant, stating Funk poses “a substantial danger to a breach of the peace, injury to persons, or danger to the community”.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
