LOGAN — A 26-year-old transient man has admitted to breaking into an apartment, stealing several items to sell, and living there while the residents were out of town. Sabian Elijah Aaron Lippard remains in the Cache County Jail since being arrested March 17.
According to court records, Lippard appeared April 7 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to burglary of a dwelling, amended to a third-degree felony.
As part of the plea agreement, a remaining theft charge was dismissed.
According to prosecutors, Logan City Police officers were called to investigate the burglary of a dwelling March 17. The complainant explained how someone had broken into her brother’s residence while he was away.
Police reported several windows in the apartment were open. A stack of cinderblocks had also been placed under one of the open windows.
Officers located a black backpack full of personal belongings. Inside were two documents from the local warming center with Lippard’s name on them. Evidence showed how the defendant had been living in the apartment while the victim was gone.
It was also discovered that $1,545.93 worth of items had been taken from the apartment. A search of Lippard’s Facebook page showed several of the stolen items were posted on marketplace ads, attempting to sell them.
Police located Lippard and took him into custody. During questioning, he reportedly admitted to entering the apartment and sleeping there. He also confessed to taking and selling some of the items on his social media page.
Lippard remains in jail being held without bail. He faces up to five years in prison when sentenced on May 19.
