LOGAN – The newly formed Mount Logan Symphony will present a fun, family-friendly concert on Friday, April 18 in the Mount Logan Middle School Auditorium.

All residents are invited to the free event which is slated for 7:30 p.m. at the school, according to Elizabeth Simmons, the founder and general manager of the new orchestra.

The symphony orchestra, which features nearly 60 instrumentalists from the local community as well as student musicians from Utah State University, will be led by conductor Dr. Ghyas Zeidieh.

“Dr. Zeidieh is an international award-winning artistic director who is new to Cache Valley,” Simmons explains. “In addition to the Mount Logan Symphony, he is also leading two other orchestras in the valley.”

A Syrian born conductor and cellist, Dr. Zeidieh is an active musician and educator transplanted to Utah from the Iowa and Illinois regions.

With degrees from the University of Iowa and the Damascus Conservatory, he is now a member of the music faculty at Utah State. In addition to teaching throughout the United States and the Middle East, Dr. Zeidieh has played with many international orchestras including the National Syrian Orchestra, Syrian Philharmonic Orchestra, the Arab Youth Orchestra and the Euro-Med Orchestra.

After being heard on several Syrian film scores, Dr. Zeidieh has also performed with numerous American ensembles including the National Geographic Midwestern Tour, the Revival Theater Company in Iowa, the Theater Cedar Rapids, the Quincy Symphony in Illinois and the Dirt Road Ensemble in New Hampshire.

Simmons said that the music for the Mount Logan Symphony concert on April 18 will include selections from Les Misérables, the Barber of Seville, Handel’s celebration of Easter entitled Rejoice and highlights from classic film Jurassic Park by John Williams.

The concert will also feature two arias from operas by Giacomo Puccini performed by guest soloist Anna Romney.

“It will be a night to remember for years to come,” Simmons promises. “No tickets are required and seating will be first come, first served.”

The Mount Logan Middle School is located at 875 North, 200 East in Logan.
