HYRUM – The city of Hyrum’s traditional week-long Star Spangled Celebration of the nation’s birthday will begin tonight (Friday, June 27) with the opening of its equally Star Spangled Rodeo at 7:30 p.m.
That two-day event will continue through Saturday, June 28 at the City Rodeo Grounds at the East Park Complex at 676 East, 100 North.

Earlier in the day on June 28, children can begin signing up for the annual Youth Parade at 10 a.m. in the City Square Park at 50 West Main Street. That event will begin at 10:30 a.m.
Following the parade, kids can cool off by participating in a water fight with Hyrum City Fire Department in Blacksmith Fork Park (176 South, 1300 East).
The day’s event will conclude with a teen dance from 9:30 to 11 p.m. at the Elite Hall at 98 West Main Street. Admission to that dance will be $3 and a drawing will be held for a door prize.
The city’s traditional Patriotic Program will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, June 29, in the City Square Park. The guest speaker will be U.S. Rep. Blake Moore (R-UT) and the Patriotic Children’s Choir will also perform.
On Friday, the Fourth of July, the events sponsored by Hyrum City will officially begin at 7 a.m. with the 9.3-mile (15-kilometer) Blacksmith Fork Freedom Run from the Power Plant in Blacksmith Fork Canyon to City Square Park in Hyrum.

For those less athletically inclined, a Chuck Wagon Breakfast will also begin to be served at 7 a.m. in the City Square and continue until 10 a.m.
As a fundraiser for the Mountain Crest High School Marching Band, the breakfast meal will include pancakes, meat, potatoes, eggs and a drink. A small plate will be offered for $8, a large plate for $10 and a family of five can eat for $40.
A Ceremony honoring the American Flag will be held at 8:00 a.m. at City Square.
The Main Street Mile will be held at 9:55 a.m. Participants can register at the Senior Center located at 700 East Main.
The traditional Hyrum City 4th of July Parade will begin at 10 a.m. The parade route will run on Main Street from 700 East to the junction of 200 West and 200 North streets. Thousands of people are expected to line of the streets of Hyrum as parade participants throw candy for the kids.
Later in the day, the Hyrum Hornets will play a baseball game against the Logan Royals at 7 p.m. in East Park.
Finally, the Hyrum City firework show will begin at about 10:00 p.m. in the field north of Mountain Crest High School.
In addition to those events on July 4, the Hyrum City will host a Grand Old Flag Historic Display in the Elite Hall from July 3 to 6 July.
Hours for the flag display will be 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on July 3 to 5 and 5 to 7 p.m. on July 6.
