Utah announced Monday the transition to a more long term response to the pandemic beginning with the shutdown of some of the state’s COVID-19 test sites.

Among four new COVID-19 deaths reported Monday by UDOH is a Cache County man, older than 85, who was not hospitalized at the time of death. The report includes two people who died before Feb. 28.

With Monday’s deaths included, 4,706 Utahns have lost their lives to the coronavirus.

The updated list of Utah’s total COVID deaths during the pandemic includes 245 from Cache, Box Elder and Rich counties.

There are 255 new cases included in the weekend total of new coronavirus positives, which is an average of 85 a day, with 112 on Friday, 87 on Saturday and 65 Sunday. That leaves Utah’s new rolling seven-day average for positive tests at 116 day.

With the new weekend numbers included, the total of coronavirus cases during more than 24 months of the pandemic is 927,551.

As of Monday 102 people are hospitalized statewide with COVID — eight fewer than Friday — while 20 of those patients are in intensive care, two fewer than on Friday. UDOH reports 60  percent of the state’s ICU beds were filled Monday.

The Bear River Health Department’s (BRHD) weekly report Monday indicates 51,488 residents of Utah’s three northern Utah counties have contracted the virus. There have been 2,022 hospitalized in the district over the course of the pandemic. As of Monday 59 percent of the district’s residents are fully vaccinated and 71 percent have received at least one dose. Over 258,000 doses have been administered in northern Utah.

The state’s rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “people over people” is 4.2 percent while the rolling seven-day average for percent positivity of “tests over tests,” is 2.7 percent.

Through the weekend 3,914 Utahns were vaccinated and now almost 62 percent of Utah’s total population — 1,998,904 — is fully vaccinated.

As of Monday 4,867 Idahoans have lost their lives to the virus. Idaho’s total is now 443,549 confirmed COVID-19 cases statewide.
