When presenting an anti-inflammatory diet to patients, the most common response is, “Then what will I eat?!?”

When the bulk of your diet consists of bread, noodles, cheese, yogurt, fast food, pancakes, waffles, egg dishes, etc., I understand an anti-inflammatory diet looks severe and forbidding.

But there’s a way to reframe this:

  • It’s an adventure in exploring new things and creating new routines.
  • It’s a declaration of radical self-care.
  • It’s a refusal to be held hostage by the food giants and their deceptive advertising.
  • It’s an investment in your brain health, your resilience, and future you.
  • It helps you better show up for the people and things you love.
  • It’s a dramatic reset.

Even more importantly…there is TONS to eat on an anti-inflammatory diet! Nature is very bountiful when it comes to great food.

Once you get through the withdrawals, you come to crave the deep soul nourishment over the drug-like fix of  “comfort foods.”

***Why do an anti-inflammatory diet?***

We have an inflammation crisis in this country.  It is the key driver for almost all diseases in the US and ruining millions of lives.

Sugary and high-carb diets, junk foods, food intolerances, sedentary lifestyles, and environmental toxins are the most common culprits.

Along with high blood sugar, food intolerances are common triggers of chronic inflammation. Identifying your unique food triggers can help you customize a satisfying and sustainable lifelong anti-inflammatory diet.
We’ve seen patients react to just about any food on the planet for various reasons. However, Gluten and dairy are the most common food intolerances. Soy, corn, rice, and eggs are also common.

Have you tried the anti-inflammatory diet?

I’ve gotten a lot of questions on my anti-inflammatory meal post.

Here’s more info…

Outside of junk foods and excess sugars, *dietary inflammatory triggers are extremely individual.*

The Inflammatory Reset is based on working with thousands of patients over the years across nine different clinics and monitoring their pre- and post-diet inflammatory lab markers. This plan is successful for 80–85% of our patients; the rest must use trial and error to tweak.

If you have autoimmunity, Hashimoto’s, or chronic gut health issues, we see AT LEAST a gluten-free and dairy-free diet helps most of them.

Other common triggers are eggs, corn, beef, soy, and so on.

Does this mean these foods are inflammatory for you? It depends! Does this mean these foods are inherently evil? No!

Following the Inflammatory Reset for 4–6 weeks allows a worn-out, hyperzealous immune system to recover and symptoms subside. When you reintroduce the foods you eliminated one at a time, your body will react if that food is inflammatory for you.

I also see oxalates brought up a lot. These are compounds in various plant foods (you can google which ones). Oxalates have become more popularized by the carnivore community, which contends all plants are unhealthy.

Do some people have issues with oxalates? Yes, particularly if they have issues with kidney stones. Do all people have problems with oxalates? No, we have patients who have reversed their symptoms and still eat plant foods, including those with oxalates. However, it can be an avenue to explore if necessary.

My hope is that people learn to embrace the *philosophy* of the Inflammatory Reset more than the specifics: Give your immune system a reset, then customize a diet that is right for YOU.  Avoid getting swept up in dietary dogma.
