LOGAN — A 33-year-old truck driver from Texas has admitted to trying to meetup for sex with an undercover officer, posing as a teenage girl in North Logan. Daniel Antonio Mora was booked into the Cache County Jail 15 months ago after driving to a department store and finding police waiting to question him.
According to court records, Mora appeared Dec. 3 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to attempted rape of a child, a first-degree felony. Two remaining charges were dismissed without prejudice.
According to prosecutors, a Logan City Police officer received a message from Mora on August 30, 2024, asking to hook up. The officer was posing as a 13-year-old girl online.
Mora reportedly asked the supposed girl to leave school and meet him at the North Logan Walmart. He claimed to have gotten a hotel room across the street, where they could engage in sexual activity.
During the messages, Mora sent several photos of himself. One showed him inside the cab of a red semi-truck. In another, he was wearing a hands-free headset commonly worn by truck drivers. A third picture was a pornographic photo of himself.
Police set up a perimeter around the North Logan Walmart and observed a truck matching Mora’s park in the parking lot. When the driver exited the cab, he was taken into custody without incident.
Officers searched the truck and located several phones, condoms and male enhancement pills. The chats with the undercover officer was discovered on the phones. There was also recent internet searches about undercover law enforcement activity for child sexual predators.
During questioning at the police department, Mora reportedly confessed to chatting with the undercover officer. He also claimed to have obtained the hotel room through his employer for the purpose of engaging in sex with the supposed girl.
Mora is being held in jail without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Feb. 11 and could face up to life in prison.
