Children clutched wrapped and bandaged teddy bears closely as they walked through a tour of the new patient tower at Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital during its opening on Thursday.

“We had teddy bears brought in to get the community — especially children — more familiar with the hospital and the services that are provided at the hospital,” said Jenn Avery, RN, chief nursing officer for Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital as she explained the teddy bear clinic.

After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, more than 1,000 people toured the new patient tower and attended a resource fair with activities, giveaways, and food trucks.

The new 110,000-square-foot, four-story patient tower is located on the northeast corner of the hospital campus and includes a new medical, surgical and pediatric nursing units, a transitional care unit, a 10-bed behavioral health unit, intensive care unit, imaging services, a cardiology unit, an education center, and a new kitchen and cafe.

Patients will be moved into the new tower on Sept. 11.

The patient tower is only the beginning of the redesign of the hospital says Brandon McBride, president and CEO of Intermountain Logan Regional Hospital.

“The next step in the project is to demolish the existing towers, which were built in the late 1970s, and build a really beautiful main entrance that will make access and navigating the campus easier for our patients,” he said.

McBride said that will make way for 90 additional parking spots for patients and a more prominent main entrance. The construction will begin in October and conclude by June 2025.
