LOGAN – Local activists will gather at the Cache County Historic Courthouse on Saturday, April 5 to tell President Donald Trump and billionaire Eldon Musk to keep their “HandsOFF!” the United States.

That event is slated for 12 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, timed with similar protests in more than 1,000 American cities and towns.

“These rallies are part of an effort to give people opportunities to communicate the effect of the federal budget cuts and personnel firings,” according to Jim Evans, one of the local organizers of the rally here in Cache Valley.

“We will also work to give people tangible things to do to communicate and help each other as we weather these times,” he added.

Across the country, these National Day of Action rallies in big cities like Washington, Philadelphia, Chicago and others are being organized by a coalition of anti-Trump groups under the aegis of “HandsOFF!” Those organizations include the Progressive Democrats of America, the Women’s March, Pubic Citizen, MoveOn, labor unions and others.

“Donald Trump and Elon Musk think this country belongs to them,” the “HandsOFF!” website warns. “They’re taking everything they can get their hands on and daring the world to stop them. On Saturday, April 5th, we’re taking to the streets nationwide to fight back with a clear message: HandsOFF!”

Many traditional political groups – including the national Democratic Party — have been thrown into disarray since Trump’s victory in the 2024 election.

For example, the progressive public policy advocacy group MoveOn – formerly known as MoveOn.org – is now one of the largest and most impactful grassroots American campaigning organizations, with membership reported in the millions.

MoveOn successfully supported Joe Biden in the 2020 election, before being embarrassed by its support of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ ill-fated campaign in 2024.

Organizers say the mass mobilization day on April 5 is intended to send a message to the world that progressive Americans will not consent to the destruction of the U.S. government and economy for the benefit of Trump and his billionaire allies.

“If we’re going to defeat Trump and Trumpism,” explains Alan Minsky, who heads the Progressive Democrats of America, “we have to have a vision for the future like the one that Sen. Bernie Sanders (IND-VT) has been preaching on the stump.”

The Cache County Historic Courthouse is located at 199 North Main Street in downtown Logan.
