LOGAN — A 28-year-old Taylorsville man has admitted to trying to have sex with a 9-year-old girl. George Carrol Carrington was arrested in February 2024, outside a Logan hotel, where he had arranged to meet up with an undercover officer, posing as the girl’s father.

According to court records Carrington appeared July 7 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He waived his right to a fair trial and pleaded guilty to attempted sodomy on a child, a first-degree felony; sodomy on a child and attempted human trafficking of a child, both second-degree felonies. Six remaining charges were dismissed.

According to prosecutors, Carrington began messaging police on an online forum in January 2024. He expressed a desire to engage in sexual relations with both the officer and his supposed daughter.

Police were able to identify Carrington from his username and photos that he had sent of himself.

On Feb. 21, 2024, Carrington made plans to meet the undercover officer in Logan to follow through with his plans of raping the child. However as the designated time approached, he asked to reschedule due to car troubles.

Carrington told the undercover officer that he would get a hotel room for the three of them to meet another time. He also offered to buy a bottle of liquor for the officer and gifts for the young girl, police reported.

On Feb. 27, 2024, Carrington sent a screenshot to police of a hotel reservation in Logan, and arranged to meet the next day. Officers staked out the area and observed the Taylorsville man arrive and go into a room.

Another officer posed undercover as the father and asked Carrington to meet outside in the parking lot. When the defendant approached the agent, police moved in and arrested him without incident.

Carrington agreed to allow police to search his hotel room. They found two stuffed animals, two bags of candy and a large bottle of liquor.

During last Monday’s court appearance, Judge Angela Fonnesbeck sentenced Carrington to six-years-to-life for the first-degree felony and two terms of one-to-15-years for the second-degree felonies. The sentences will run consecutively, for a total of eight-years-to-life at the Utah State Correctional Facility.

Carrington was recommended credit for the 495 days already served in jail. It will be up to the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole to determine when he is released.
