LOGAN — A 27-year-old Smithfield man made his initial appearance in court on multiple felony charges after an investigation into uploaded child sexual abuse material led authorities to search his residence, according to Logan police.

Kaleb Aerin Witherspoon appeared Aug. 17 in Logan’s First District Court. He was charged with 10 second-degree felony counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, five Class A misdemeanor counts of failure to register sex offender monitoring information, and two Class A misdemeanor counts of possessing a child sex doll.

The investigation began on Dec. 30, 2025, when the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from the messaging platform Kik regarding a user uploading child sexual abuse material. Law enforcement verified the content and used network IP addresses to trace the user account to a Comcast subscription at a residence in Smithfield.

Witherspoon, who was residing at the address, was previously arrested in 2019 on 10 counts of minor sexual exploitationHe later accepted a plea deal and was to serve 180 days in jail, complete sex-offender therapy and complete 80 hours of community service.

Investigators obtained search warrants for Witherspoon’s vehicle, cellphone, electronic storage devices, and residence. Officers identified at least five social media and messaging accounts — including Kik and TikTok — that Witherspoon had failed to disclose on his sex offender registry requirements. During police questioning, Witherspoon acknowledged using Kik on his phone and iPad for sexual encounters before invoking his Fifth Amendment rights.

Upon searching the home, officers seized multiple electronic devices and located two child sex dolls, one in Witherspoon’s bedroom and another in his bathroom shower.

According to court records, Witherspoon is currently out of jail on $10,000 bail. He is scheduled to appear again in court Sept. 14.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
