After serving on the Logan School Board for the last 20 years, Lynn Hobbs decided not run for another term. Two candidates are vying for his seat in District 2: Jenny Johnson and Doug Smith.

A local dentist, Smith says he decided to run because he believes some changes are needed in the district. He says, in his opinion, better representation is needed on the board.

He is also concerned about some of the decisions that have been made in the past.

“We need to make sure we are fiscally responsible to the public, as far as what we are doing with the money,” says Smith, “making sure the projects that we are going to do that we have those spelled out from the get-go before we start any kind of a project, so we know where we are going to be.

“I know we’ve had some trouble with the high school, with some cost overruns. It’s kind of because they start a project before they even had plans finalized.”

Smith, who has three children enrolled in the Logan School District and went through the system himself, says he is concerned about the way money is allocated and wants to make sure those with special needs are getting the resources they need.

Smith says he would like to see a better relationship overall between parents, teachers, school board and administration.
