LOGAN – With three days remaining in the current SmallSat Conference at Utah State University, news broke Monday afternoon the group’s 38th gathering in Cache Valley will be its last.

Small Satellite Conference

The Small Satellite Conference is moving to Salt Lake City in August, 2025.

Pat Patterson, conference chair, announced the pending move during Monday’s opening session in Logan. He said the key factor behind the move is the need for larger, more modern facilities for the growing number of attendees and exhibitors.

SmallSat 2025 is scheduled for next August at the Calvin L. Rampton Salt Palace Convention Center.

Since 1987 the Space Dynamics Lab and Utah State University have hosted the conference.

Patterson said because Logan has just 1,020 hotel rooms most of SmallSat’s 4,000 attendees must stay at least a 30-minute drive away from Logan.

“We have had something special here,” said Patterson. “The community together has created this thing and we have to make sure that we take that something special with us to Salt Lake City.”
