GARDEN CITY, Utah (AP) — Authorities are trying to determine how a pipe bomb ended up at popular recreation spot Bear Lake.

KSL-TV of Salt Lake City reports (http://bit.ly/1Th9Afu) that a parks manager discovered the device Thursday on the south side of the marina.

Rich County Sheriff Dale Stacey says the manager first noticed a cord on some ice and found a small pipe bomb attached.

Stacey describes the bomb as 6 inches long and made with three-quarter inch PVC pipe.

He believes someone was trying to go fishing with explosives.

A Cache County Sheriff’s Office bomb squad detonated the device on the shore.

Stacey says no fingerprints are present and the device was likely in the ice for months.

Anyone with information is asked to contact authorities.
