GARLAND — Firefighters from several Box Elder County departments battled an early-morning garage fire Saturday that threatened nearby homes, marking the second garage fire reported in the Garland-Tremonton area in a matter of days.
Shortly after 2 a.m., Weber 911 Dispatch received multiple calls reporting a structure fire on North Main Street in Garland. Callers reported hearing explosions and said nearby homes were threatened, according to the Garland Fire Department.
Garland firefighters responded along with crews from the Tremonton Fire Department through an automatic aid agreement.
When firefighters arrived, they found a detached garage heavily involved in flames, with significant fire and smoke. Because of the size of the fire and the threat to surrounding structures, an additional engine was requested from Fielding Fire/EMS.
Crews attacked the fire while working to keep the flames from spreading further into a nearby residence. Firefighters brought the blaze under control before it could cause more extensive damage to the home, although the residence did sustain some fire-related damage.
No injuries were reported.
Saturday’s fire comes just days after another garage fire in nearby Tremonton. In that incident, fire officials said a malfunctioning refrigerator sparked a fire inside a residential garage.
There has been no indication from fire officials that the two incidents are related. The cause of Monday morning’s Garland fire remains under investigation.
The Garland Fire Department credited the coordinated response of Tremonton Fire, Fielding Fire/EMS, Tremonton-Garland Police Department, Box Elder County Sheriff’s Office, Weber Area Dispatch 911 & Emergency Services District and Box Elder Communications.
Fire officials also reminded residents to maintain working smoke alarms, develop a home escape plan and immediately call 911 when a fire or other emergency is discovered.
