Bunchgrass Trail near White Pine Lake.

LOGAN — Search and rescue teams were dispatched to the Tony Grove area in Logan Canyon to help an injured backpacker Friday morning.

Cache County Sheriff’s Lt. Doyle Peck said the 67-year-old man was reportedly camping by himself about seven miles up the Bunchgrass Trail, east of White Pine Lake.

Thursday night the victim fell and sustained a deep laceration to his leg. He was able to treat the wound and stop the bleeding.

Friday morning he contacted 911 dispatch, stating he couldn’t hike out of the area.

Search and rescue teams were able to reach the backpacker around 1 p.m. and help him down to US-89, to be reunited with waiting family.

Later Friday, teams were dispatched to an ATV crash near the Cache/Rich county line. The crash occurred about 11 miles along Hardware Ranch Road, near the Sinks.

Law enforcement reported one of the ATV drivers sustained minor injuries to their shoulder.
