SALT LAKE CITY – In advance of the upcoming general session of the Utah Legislature, the House Majority Caucus has released its list of priorities for the 2026 session.
They include keeping the cost of living low, helping students excel and strengthening public safety, according to a Jan. 8 statement released by the Republican members of the majority caucus.
GOP lawmakers also pledged to invest in Utah’s long-term strength and to make government more accountable and fiscally responsible, as well as safeguarding the state’s natural resources.
“As the people’s house,” explained Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise), the House Majority Leader, “we listen to and advocate for Utahns in every community and we heard their priorities loud and clear.”
Here in Cache County, for example, Snider is personally in the midst of a listening tour of town hall meetings that began in Paradise on Jan. 3 and will continue through Jan. 14 in Mendon, just days before the opening of the legislative session.
Snider said that what he and other lawmakers have heard from Utahns are common-sense, conservative solutions that reflect what families across the state want and need.
As a result of that interaction, the majority caucus of the Legislature has developed a list of eight priorities that will guide decision-making during the general sessions.
Those priorities include keeping Utah affordable by lower costs for Utah families and ensuring that taxpayers see real value of every dollar spent; ensuring that Utah families thrive; keeping government limited by safeguarding Utah’s economy, balancing the state’s budget and making wise investments; building infrastructure that lasts; restoring confidence in government through transparency, accountability and service to the people; promoting quality of life by making Utah’s communities among the safest in the nation; preparing the next generation to lead with quality public and higher education; and protecting the state’s vital water resources.
“By championing these policies,” Snider explains, “we will strengthen Utah families, invest in long-term prosperity and keep Utah the best state in the nation.”
The 45-day general session of the Utah Legislature will begin on Tuesday, Jan. 20 in Salt Lake City.
