Put nonperishable food items out to be collected before 9 a.m. tomorrow March 15.

LOGAN – Saturday March 16 should a big day for the Cache Community Food Pantry. Last year they hauled in 120,000 pounds of food. This year, the food will go a long way to feed about 375 families a week.

Matt Whitaker the executive director of the Cache Food Pantry stands in front part of the food collected on Saturday March 18, 2023.

For over 50 years the Cache Food Pantry has committed to making sure no individual goes to bed hungry. Over those years Cache Valley has grown significantly and so have the needs of the pantry.

The pantry started as a collaboration with Bear River Association of Governments (BRAG). The Cache Community Food Pantry was incorporated in 1994 at the present location in an existing building which had previously housed several businesses.

The past few years the economy is forcing even middle-income families to rely on food from other sources.

“We are hoping for another good year,” Executive Director Matt Whitaker said. “Last year we collected about 120,000 pounds of food, the best ever and we are hoping to do as good this year.”

Feed Utah Food Drive collection will be tomorrow Saturday March 15, before 9 a.m.

The food pantry supports other entities with food collected in Cache Valley. The pantry also received about $14,000 in cash donations through Venmo last year and Whittaker is hoping for the same financial support this time around.

Door hangers were passed out to houses across the valley hoping to remind people to put their cans out Saturday morning. Nonperishable food should be placed next to the front door in a bag on the front porch. It is supposed to be picked up by 9 a.m.

Cache County Search and Rescue will bring the food from the drop off locations to the food pantry.
