CORINNE – Procter & Gamble is announcing a $400 million expansion of its paper products facility in Box Elder County. At least 100 new jobs will be added to the facility with the expansion over the next 20 years.
The announcement was made this week from the Utah Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity, who will be giving the manufacturer a temporary, marginal tax reduction.
“We are excited to expand our operations in Box Elder County to meet the growing demand for our products and serve our consumers,” said Seth Garner, senior director of Product Supply Manufacturing at the Box Elder Plant. “We’re grateful to the Box Elder County community, a place we have called home since 2010, for their continued support, and we look forward to many years of partnership and growth.”
The Procter & Gamble Box Elder facility located at 5000 Iowa String Road in Corinne was established in 2010 and has expanded multiple times. It received a similar tax incentive in 2015 when they announced a $400-$500 million capital investment in the facility. The P&G plant currently operates on approximately 750 acres of land, with over 40 acres under its roof. Today, over 500 employees work at the site.
“Procter & Gamble is a well-known company with brands that are in almost all Utah households,” said Ryan Starks, executive director of the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity. “We’re excited they have decided to expand in Box Elder County, and we wish the company success as they continue to grow.”
In the agreement with state, Procter & Gamble may receive up to 10% of the additional state taxes it will pay over the 20-year life of the agreement from the Rural Economic Development Tax Increment Financing (REDTIF) tax credit, authorized by the Utah legislature. Each year the company meets the criteria it will qualify for a portion of the total tax credit. According to the Governor’s Office of Economic Opportunity’s tax credit projections, P&G will add $120,806,017 in wages and there will an increase of $104,224,923 in new state tax revenue.
