BEAR LAKE COUNTY, Idaho — An armed woman was taken into custody early Tuesday morning after barricading herself inside a Georgetown home following a domestic violence investigation, according to the Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies initially responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in the 1100 block of Georgetown Canyon Road during the early morning hours of Sept. 22. While investigating at the scene, law enforcement officers developed probable cause for felony battery.
When deputies attempted to make contact with the suspect, the woman refused to comply and barricaded herself inside the residence. Authorities noted that the woman was believed to be armed and had direct access to numerous firearms from her location within the building.
Because of the heightened safety risk, the Southeast Idaho Special Tactics and Response Team was activated and deployed to the home. Following the tactical response, the woman was successfully taken into custody without further incident.
The suspect was subsequently transported to the Caribou County Jail.
The Bear Lake County Sheriff’s Office credited the Montpelier Police Department, Soda Springs Police Department, and Caribou County Sheriff’s Office for assisting during the incident.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
