LOGAN — A 21-year-old Preston, Idaho man is facing charges of manslaughter and other crimes after a crash that killed another driver and an infant north of Cove last December.

According to court records, Cache County prosecutors filed a criminal case against Nathaniel Stan Haudley-Resendiz, Monday in Logan’s 1st District Court. They charged him with two counts of manslaughter and knowingly producing a controlled substance, both second-degree felonies; possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor; and infractions for crossing a highway divider, failing to wear a seat belt, operating unsafe on a public highway, and failing to provide a child restraint device for child.

Accoriding to an affidavit of probable cause, on December 15, 2024, around 1 p.m., Haudley-Resendiz was driving a 2014 GMC Terrain and was traveling southbound on State Route (SR) 91 at milepost 44. As he was travelling, he allegedly crossed the center median and collided with a Mazda 3.

Unfortunately, the driver of the Mazda 3, later identied as Heather Marshall, a 39-year-old woman from Lewiston, died at the scene. Additionally, there was a nine-month-old infant in the rear passenger seat of Haudley-Resendiz’s vehicle, who also died.

According to court documents, Haudley-Resendiz had THC in his blood and marijuana and drug paraphernalia were found in his vehicle. Allegedly, he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident and the nine-month-child was improperly restrained in their car seat.

The affidavit further alleges that Haudley-Resendiz’s vehicle had a spare tire on the left rear tire and that he was travelling at a speed that was faster than is recommended by the spare tire manufacturer.
