LOGAN — A couple productions just wrapped up at Ridgeline and Mountain Crest High Schools, but Logan High School is getting ready to put on Cole Porter’s “Anything Goes”, beginning Friday night, Nov 17th and continuing Saturday and Nov 20th and 21st at 7p.m. each night.

The musical features senior Spencer Needham in the role of Billy and junior Anna Giddings as Reno.

On a recent KVNU For the People program, director and instructor Jared Rounds said he feels Anna and Spencer are the right ones for their roles.

Their preparation for it really showed that they wanted it and they earned it. With Reno, I knew I needed someone with a great big voice, Anna walked on the stage and blew us all out of the auditorium. And there was something just very charming about Spencer. I don’t know, usually when I cast shows at Logan High they pretty much fall in to place really, really well,”  he explained.

Rounds said he chooses shows based on the student he knows he is going to have. He said he was actually in Anything Goes in college, so there’s a lot of nostalgia in it for him.

Needham talked about what he’s especially looking forward to with this production.

“The song that I knew of…like, that I’ve always known and when people say “Anything Goes”  I think about it, is the big song “Anything Goes”.  Which Anna is the singer for that song and I think that song is just so much fun because we have a bunch of good dancers and it’s a big tap number and I think audiences are going to love it.  And I love tap dancing, so that’s probably my favorite part”. he said.

Giddings plays the role of a nightclub singer and evangelist in the character of Reno. She admitted the assignment is a bit daunting.

“Reno is very vocally challenging, like, I have to sing really low and then I have to sing pretty high. But I feel like doing this role I’ve expanded my vocal ability so much. It’s been really interesting to see how much I’ve grown in the past month and a half doing this show. But it’s definitely the words to some of the songs are really hard, and like the tempo and all that stuff, but it’s really fun,” Giddings explained.

She said she loves the theatre and her goal is to be on Broadway. Giddings said she’s the happiest when she’s on stage.
