EDEN – Powder Mountain is announcing a significant expansion of skiable terrain, adding over 1,000 rideable acres. CEO Reed Hastings announced today the acquisition of additional acreage and expanded lift access.
The expansion project comprises two distinct areas adding to the skiable terrain on the west and east sides of the mountain. On the west side, the public will be introduced to two new areas featuring expert and advanced terrain, enriching the skiing repertoire of Powder Mountain. Meanwhile, homeowners on the east side will gain access to vast stretches of expert and advanced terrain, enhancing the exclusivity of their experience.
“We’re fortunate in Utah to have enough land to expand our skiable terrain and keep the ski experience uncrowded,” said CEO Reed Hastings in a statement released Friday. “These acquisitions, alongside our decisions to not accept megapasses and limit day ticket sales, help to fulfill our promise of keeping Powder Mountain uncrowded, independent, and a truly special place for generations to come.”
In addition to the expansion of terrain, Powder Mountain revealed plans for new lift services catering to both the public and private areas of the resort. The public will benefit from enhanced accessibility to the Wolf Canyon and DMI areas, renowned for their exceptional expert and advanced terrain. This expansion will encompass 900 acres of lift-served terrain and 147 acres of hike-to access, promising thrilling adventures through wide-open bowls, pristine glades, and expert shoots.
Meanwhile, Powder Mountain is set to acquire 2,390 acres of adjacent land, further enriching its private homeowner offering. This expansive terrain, meticulously selected from a neighboring property, boasts 1,766 feet of consistently-pitched vertical drop over 980 acres, featuring glades and meticulously groomed runs. Strategically located near the village, this terrain extension aligns seamlessly with the existing private offerings, elevating the luxury skiing experience for homeowners.
Acknowledging the pivotal role played by co-owner Greg Mauro, Hastings lauded Mauro’s vision in steering Powder Mountain away from mainstream passes, thereby solidifying its position as a premier destination. Hastings also credited Mauro as being the architect of the expanded terrain.
Surveying and planning for the expansion will begin this summer. Announcements about construction timelines and exact routing of lift infrastructure will follow. Construction of the new lift is expected to occur in the summer of 2025. Powder Mountain aims to offer guided adventure experiences for the 2024/25 season.
