GARDEN CITY – Over the river and through the woods – in other words, up Logan Canyon – the highlight of Memorial Day weekend will be the debut of Trouble in Hunky Dory at the Pickleville Playhouse.

As always, the original musical melodrama by playwright Derek Davis will be filled with veteran Pickleville performers as well as talented newcomers.

The musical’s author explains that his new melodrama is set in a quaint Old West town “where the good guy always wins and everyone lives happily ever after.”

Or do they? wonders heroine Dotty Darling.

Chaos then erupts when she begin to notice cracks in her fairy tale world. Complete with sparkling new music, outrageous plot twists and an endless supply of witty one-liners, this all-out Pickleville original promises to take off and never slow down until the final bow.

Local favorite performers returning to the stage of the rustic playhouse on the shores of Bear Lake include Jaycee Harris, Jordan Todd Brown, Taylor Seth Hall and Tori Adler.

When not working backstage as the manager of the usual chaos, Ms. Harris has previously appeared in Pickleville productions of Welcome to Dangerville, Thick as Thieves and The Play That Goes Wrong.

Brown is well-known to Pickleville audiences from numerous previous productions, often in tandem with co-conspirator Slater Ashenhurst, both ad-libbing like mad. In addition to playing the Mayor of Hunky Dory, Brown also provided script advice to Derek Davis, usually in the form of nutty gag ideas.

In his fifth season at the Pickleville Playhouse, Hall is best remembered for his hilarious performance in The Play That Goes Wrong in 2024.

Sharing the role of Dotty in Trouble in Hunky Dory, the vivacious Ms. Adler previously demonstrated her theatrical chops in the Pickleville productions of Welcome to Dangerville and Newsies.

The cast of Trouble in Hunky Dory will also include Pickleville veterans Alec Foote and Chase Nylander.

Making her Pickleville debut in the melodrama will be the lovely Arden Allmon. She is a third-year student at the College Conservatory of Music (CCM) at the University of Cincinnati.

Another newcomer is Joey Baciocco, also a junior at CCM.

Making their Pickleville debuts will be Avery Gallagher, Luke Elison, Mary Davis (no relation to Derek Davis or any other of the talented Davis clan) and Natalie Wren.

Trouble in Hunky Dory is scheduled to run at Pickleville Playhouse from Friday, May 23 through Saturday, Sept. 6.
