PROMONTORY, Utah — One Box Elder County employee has died and another has been hospitalized after two separate workplace incidents.

A press release from The Box Elder County Attorney’s Office explained the incidents happened on Tuesday afternoon in the Promontory area and involved seasonal workers for the Weed Control Department.

In the first incident, “a worker sustained a serious injury and was transported to the hospital and is reported to be in stable condition,” the press released stated.

“In a second accident that immediately followed, a worker died on site,” the attorney’s office said. “Box Elder County is cooperating with Utah State Parks and the Utah Occupational Safety and Health Division as they work on the investigation.”

Box Elder County Deputy Attorney Anne K. Hansen said they took place while the crew was spraying for noxious weeds.

Officials explained the employees were in the same general vicinity, but were not working near each other. They believe the two employees were both involved in rollover accidents while operating UTVs.

However, the exact cause was still being determined by the investigation.

The names of the employees were not initially released, pending family notification.

Hansen said, “Our first concern is for the employees and their families. Our hearts are with them in the face of this terrible tragedy.”
