LOGAN – City officials here are reminding Cache Valley resident and visitors that the area around the Hydro Buildings and surge tanks in Logan Canyon is private property and that trespassers will be prosecuted.
In a recent post on Facebook, officials said they have noted a recent increase in individuals trespassing on Logan City property around the Hydro Buildings and surge tanks there.
“We are monitoring security cameras (in those areas),” they add. “The Logan Police Department and Cache County Sheriff’s Office are aware of the illegal activity.”
They warn that law enforcement officers will be dispatched to those areas immediately upon the first sign of trespassing.
The city’s hydro-electric plants and surge tanks are located near the mouth of Logan Canyon at the east end of Ray Hugie Park and approximately two miles up the canyon above 2nd Dam.
Both plants are connected through a high-speed fiber optic network to the city’s 24-hour dispatch center. If the water levels in the Logan River are high enough, these hydro- electric plants can produce about 10 percent of the Logan’s energy needs.
Officials admit that they are concerned that trespassers on the city property around those facilities risk injuries and have the potential to start a forest fire.
The city is therefore requesting that members of local communities and the public assist them in stopping the current rash of trespassing.
“If you have heard of anyone doing this,” they say, “Please remind them of the risk they taking.
“If parents need to talk to their teenagers or young adults,” they added, “please do so.”
City officials remind everyone that trespassers on Logan property are subject to stiff fines and other penalties.
