LOGAN – A presentation, that unfortunately is very timely with the events going on in Ukraine right now, is entitled “Objects of War: Family Memories & the Things We Carry”.

It will be featured as the March topic for the Cache Valley Historical Society meeting – Wednesday night at 7p.m. in the Historic Cache County Courthouse at 199 North Main in Logan.

It will be moderated by Annika Shinn, USU professor of history Dr. Susan Grayzel and Dr. Molly Cannon, director of the Mountain West Center.  On KVNU’s For the People program on Tuesday, Dr Cannon talked about what these objects include.

“Many of us are familiar with material remains of war, whether or not we ourselves had direct experience with the battlefield. Our family members often bring home objects, personal items maybe, or even the items that were issued to them in service. We also send things to our family members who are serving abroad. And over time, over generations, these objects get collected, they’re curated within your house and sometimes those stories persist. That’s really what we’re interested in,”  she explained.

They will discuss the basic tools that will allow veterans and members of military families as well as the general public to understand the objects brought home from war by returning Utah veterans and the stories they tell.

This project is funded by the National Endowment for the Humanities. This event is free and open to the public.
