Nampa, Idaho – Utah State’s men and women’s track and field teams had a total 18 top-five finishers at the Boise State hosted Jacksons Invitational in Nampa, Idaho and at the New Mexico Collegiate Classic in Albuquerque, N.M.

In addition to its 18 top-five finishes, Utah State also had six individuals win event titles including senior Chari Hawkins winning the pentathlon by scoring 4,059 points. Senior Nic Bowens won the 60m (6.74) along with a win in the 200m, breaking his own school record with a time of 21.06. Junior Parker Bluth won the 400m (47.50), with freshman Clay Lambourne winning the 800m with a time of 1:50.64 which leads the Mountain West. Sophomore Colby Wilson finished first in the mile (4:17.33) and Kevin Allen placed first in the shot put 5.92m (52-02.75).

“Two of our captains, Chari Hawkins and Nic Bowens, had terrific performances this weekend. Chari won the pentathlon in New Mexico with a score of 4059 that places her 14th in the NCAA. And in Boise, Nic Bowens ran 21.06 in the 200m to lower his school record and place himself among the top-20 in the nation. A number of other athletes across all events continued to improve their seasonal bests, which is great to see as we prepare for the Conference Championships. One particular stand-out performance came from a freshman. In his first-ever 800m race, Clay Lambourne ran 1:50.64 which is the new leading time in the Mountain West and fifth all-time at Utah State,” said USU head coach Gensel.

Other top performances for the Aggie men included senior Jacob Bautista placing third in the 60m (6.89) and third in the 200m (21.58). Freshman Bryson Stout finishing fifth in the 60m (6.97) and fifth in the 200m (22.06), with Tanner Hunt claiming the fifth spot in the 400m (48.53).

On the women’s side, senior Melanie Heslop placed third in the weight throw at 17.29 (56-08.75) with fellow senior Amber Thompson finishing fourth in the pole vault at 3.80m (12-05.50).
