LOGAN — A 20-year-old Newton man has confessed to downloading child pornography. Rayden J. Sazama accepted a plea deal that could keep him from a prison sentence.

According to court records, Sazama appeared Oct. 16 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, amended to a third-degree felony. The crimes carry a maximum sentence of up to five years in prison.

As part of the plea resolution, four remaining charges were dismissed. Prosecutors also reportedly agreed not to ask for a prison term at sentencing.

Sazama was arrested in November 2023 after Cache County Sheriff’s deputies tracked child pornography to his electronic device. The material was reportedly downloaded around August 2023.

Sazama is currently out of jail on pretrial release. He is scheduled to be sentenced Dec. 11.
