NIBLEY – The Utah Division of Outdoor Recreation (DOR) will stop in Nibley on Wednesday, Dec. 11, as part of its 2024 statewide grant workshop tour. The free workshop, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon, will provide an overview of available outdoor recreation funding and guidance on applying for grants.
The workshop is aimed at local governments, nonprofits, and outdoor recreation advocates seeking to improve Utah’s outdoor spaces and infrastructure. Participants will receive advice on writing strong grant applications, managing budgets, and maximizing project outcomes through multiple funding sources.
“Our goal is to ensure every organization with an outdoor recreation project, whether in the planning stages or already underway, has the tools to submit competitive grant applications,” said Patrick Morrison, DOR’s recreation grants program director. “Whether you’re in the planning phase or already developing your project, these workshops are designed to foster collaboration and help organizations understand the many funding streams available to bring their vision to life.
“By bringing these workshops directly to towns across Utah, we are demonstrating our commitment to supporting the unique needs of our rural and urban communities, ensuring that recreation opportunities are accessible to all.”
The DOR’s grants include the Utah Outdoor Recreation Grant (UORG), the Recreation Restoration Infrastructure Grant (RRI), the OHV Recreation Grant (OHVR), and more. The Nibley session will also cover application eligibility, deadlines, and best practices for successful submissions. Breakout sessions will focus on reimbursement strategies and budget management.
Other similar sessions will be held throughout the state, starting in Vernal on November 18th and ending in Salt Lake City on December 12th.
In 2023, the DOR awarded over $15 million in UORG funds to 100 outdoor recreation projects in Utah, alongside $3.2 million in OHVR grants for off-highway vehicle projects.
Registration is required and can be done here. More information about the Outdoor Recreation grant program can be found at recreation.utah.gov/grants.
