BRIGHAM CITY — Drivers in northern Utah should prepare for delays as Box Elder County officials announced a full road closure near Portage beginning Monday, April 13, for a bridge installation project.
The closure will affect 25800 North at the Malad River crossing, where construction crews are set to install a new bridge. Active construction is scheduled to begin April 15, with the project expected to be completed by August.
During the closure, traffic will be detoured north along the Frontage Road to Woodruff Lane in Oneida County, then west to 300 West and south into Portage. Officials are urging motorists to plan ahead, allow extra travel time and follow posted detour signs.
The project is one of several ongoing bridge improvements across the county that are impacting travel.
In Riverside, the road over the Bear River Canal at 15600 North remains closed to through traffic between Highway 13 and 6000 West, with access limited to local traffic. In Fielding, construction continues at the Camp Fife Road bridge over the same canal, though that route remains open with possible delays.
County officials say the work is part of broader infrastructure improvements aimed at maintaining safe and reliable roadways throughout the region.
In addition to construction impacts, drivers in Box Elder County and surrounding areas — including parts of northern Utah — are also being advised to monitor seasonal road conditions as spring weather continues to fluctuate.
Several mountain and valley roads are now open, including Long Divide and Short Divide on both the Box Elder and Cache Valley sides, as well as Dairy Valley Road near Collinston. However, Willard Peak Road and Rocky Dugway Road near Mantua remain closed.
County officials encourage residents and commuters to stay informed through official county updates as construction and weather conditions evolve.
