RICH COUNTY — A 27-year-old motorcyclist was killed Saturday night after hitting a cow on a highway in Rich County, causing the man’s motorcycle to go up in flames.
Deputies and Utah Highway Patrol troopers were dispatched to the fatal crash shortly after 10 p.m. on June 7. It was reported in the area of State Route 39, near milepost 53 in the Monte Cristo area.
According to troopers, the man had been riding with a group of motorcyclists when he struck the cow. The impact caused his motorcycle to ignite.
Emergency medical and fire crews responded and attempted life-saving measures. Despite their efforts the man was pronounced dead at the scene.
Officials have not released the victim’s name, pending notification of family.
The crash remains under investigation by the Utah Highway Patrol.
