November 10, 1962 – April 10, 2022 (age 59)

Our loving Father, Son, Husband, and Grandfather Michael Akin unexpectedly passed away on April 10, 2022, at the age of 59.

Michael led an interesting and fun-filled life, enjoying life in all situations. He was a skilled truck driver, traveling across the country throughout his life. Mike brought a unique humor to everything. He could strike up a conversation with just about anyone. His humor, wit, and charm gained him friends wherever he went. Mike had a big and giving heart, always helping those he cared about. He was a California hero at just 17 years old, saving a man from a burning vehicle. Disregarding his own safety he pulled the man from the flames, ultimately saving his life. That is the type of man Mike was, generous and fearless.

He was an outstanding grandfather (Pop Pop) to his many grandchildren that he loved dearly. Always taking the time to play with them, teach them life lessons, and ensure they knew his love for them. He affectionately gave them each their own special nickname. All of his grandchildren looked up to him and loved their Pop Pop fiercely.

As a lover or music he was often found in his garage blasting anything and everything from The Rolling Stones to George Jones. There he would happily dance with his children and grandchildren.

He had love and immense knowledge of American history that he enjoyed sharing. He loved American history as much as he loved and celebrated America. Mike could often be found flying our nation’s flag and wearing America’s colors proudly. The Fourth of July was Mike’s favorite holiday. He’d appropriately celebrate by lighting off fireworks and grilling the perfect burgers.

As a father, he instilled in his children the confidence to be themselves. Giving them a courageous attitude, the courage to speak their minds, and stand up for themselves. Mike worked hard his entire life always providing for his family. Giving his children a home filled with laughter, and wild adventures. Mike gave his children, grandchildren, and wife many memories they will cherish forever.

Michael was proceeded in death by his father Chuffie Akin and brother Kelley Akin. He is survived by his mother Geanie, wife Susan Akin, son Michael (Cindy), daughter Ashleigh (Johnny), daughter Kristie (Blake), son Zac, and his many grandchildren Lexi, Haidyn, Dani Lynn, Madden, Sophie, Khelstin, Madison, and Bristyl.

As a family, we are devastated, heartbroken and simply lost. There are no words for how much we loved Mike. He will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held in his honor April 23rd at 3:00 pm at Gillies Funeral, 634 East 200 South, Brigham City Utah.
