October 4, 1940 – May 11, 2022 (age 81)

Margaret Alice Rose Griffin passed away at the age of 81 on May 11, 2022. Mom was born October 4th, 1940 in Garland, Utah to Ruth Alice Sederholm Rose and Lt. Colonel Horace Stephen Rose. She was the second of four daughters. Her early years were spent growing up in Garland but because her father was in the military the family moved often. Eventually her father was stationed in Karlsruhe, Germany which is where Mom graduated from Heidelberg American High School in 1958.

After high school her family moved back to Utah where her mom began working at Thiokol. Mom later worked at Thiokol as well which is when she met Doug Griffin on a blind date. The two of them were married in Las Vegas, Nevada in 1959. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Ogden LDS Temple. Mom and Dad recently celebrated 62 years together.

Mom was a hard worker spending many hours moving pipe, driving tractors, preparing meals and sewing clothes to save money. Mom was a wonderful cook. As the family grew larger she loved gathering everyone together. For many years everyone knew during the summer months at 8 pm the tractors were to be shut down, the sprinkler pipe was put on hold, and everyone gathered at Mom’s for Family Home Evening and Dutch Oven dinner. This tradition continued for many years until the family became too large and the Dutch Ovens became too heavy for her to carry.

After her children were all in school Mom began working as a secretary at Lewiston Elementary where she worked for 14 years. She loved every minute of it and she made many great and lifelong friends.

Mom was strong in her faith of the Gospel and she enjoyed sharing her testimony. She faithfully served in many church callings including a service mission, temple worker and young women’s leader. She loved to serve and she did it well.

Mom loved, loved, loved to golf and she played at every opportunity, sometimes playing four or five times per week, and sometimes even playing multiple rounds per day. Her last round of golf was played three weeks ago at the age of 81. She loved her ladies golfing group and she cherished those friendships to the very end.

Mom liked to have fun and enjoyed watching her children and her grandchildren grow and be involved in various activities. She enjoyed attending their many ball games, recitals, concerts and any other activity they were involved in. Mom had great love and respect for each of her children and grandchildren. Their happiness is what made Mom truly happy. Mom spent many hours making quilts for all the grandchildren even though it often caused her pain. She didn’t want any of them to be left out.

Mom is survived by her husband Doug and their six children: Kim Haws (Natalie), Stephen (Celia), David (Nancy), Robert (Amanda), Clair (Karey, deceased) and Roselyn Cox (Jon, deceased), 17 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Mom is preceeded in death by her parents, sister (Nadine Nethery), son-in-law (Jon Cox) and daughter-in-law (Karey Kruel).

We wish to thank the many doctors, nurses and care givers who provided comfort and care in recent days and months.
