LOGAN — A 19-year-old man has been arrested for sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl in February, according to law enforcement. Jaime Miguel Cordero was booked Thursday, April 25, into the Cache County Jail.

According to an arrest affidavit, Logan City Police officers began investigating Cordero after the alleged victim reported to her school leaders that she had been sexually assaulted by a family friend. She disclosed that Cordero had been at her house because he was friends with her brother.

The girl told police, after going to bed, Cordero allegedly entered her room and began groping and assaulting her. She reported he also bit her neck and forehead.

Police reported the alleged victim had slight bruising on her neck. Several family members claimed Cordero had been seen “sneaking” around on the night of the incident, according to the Probable Cause Statement.

When officers questioned Cordero, he reportedly said he had been consuming “a large amount of alcohol” on the night of the allegations. He claimed that all he could remember was “play fighting” with the alleged victim.

According to jail records, Cordero was booked on suspicion of aggravated sexual abuse of a child, a first degree felony. He was later released after posting $20,000 bond, while formal charges are pending the completion of officer’s investigation.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
