LOGAN – JOANN Fabrics, the renowned fabric and craft retailer with a history spanning over eight decades, has announced it will close all of its U.S. stores, including the location at 190 Main St. in Logan. This decision follows the company’s second Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing within a year, as it struggled with declining consumer demand and significant inventory challenges.

JOANN, a national fabric and crafts retailer, announced it is closing all of its stores across the country, including the one at 190 South Main in Logan.

Founded in 1943 by German immigrants in Ohio, JOANN Fabrics grew to operate approximately 800 stores nationwide. In January, the company filed for bankruptcy protection, initially planning to shutter around 500 locations. However, after a recent auction, financial services firm GA Group, in partnership with JOANN’s term lenders, acquired the majority of the company’s assets. The new ownership group has decided to liquidate all remaining stores.

“We are committed to working constructively with the winning bidder to ensure an orderly wind-down of operations that minimizes the negative impact on all JOANN Team Members, vendors, customers and communities,” the company claimed on its website. “Subject to court approval of the sale transaction, we expect to begin, or in some cases continue, going-out-of-business sales at all locations immediately.”

Customers can continue to shop in-store, online at Joann.com, and via the mobile app during this period. Gift cards will be accepted until February 28, 2025. Specific closure dates have not been announced, but the company anticipates that final sales will conclude in the coming weeks. There are just over a dozen JOANN locations throughout the state of Utah and 10 locations throughout Idaho.

The closure of JOANN Fabrics adds to the growing list of major U.S. retail chains ceasing operations, following similar announcements from Kmart and Big Lots in recent months. The loss of the Logan store marks a significant change for local crafting enthusiasts and the community, who have relied on JOANN Fabrics for a wide array of crafting supplies and materials.
