LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan woman has accepted a plea deal in an assault case that left a 46-year-old man—who was recovering from multiple surgeries—with severe injuries. Ashley Victoria Winsor, along with co-defendants Shannon Leigh Karpowich, 29, and Kelly G. Olson, 43, were arrested last fall following an investigation into the incident.
According to court records, Winsor appeared Feb. 9 in Logan’s 1st District Court. She pleaded “no contest” to attempted kidnapping, amended to a third-degree felony. An additional felony charge was dismissed.
The plea meant she conceded the alleged charge occurred without admitting guilt or offering a defense. It is still viewed as a guilty plea in court.
According to prosecutors, the incident occurred on Oct. 27, 2025, when the victim went downstairs to ask his sister, Karpowich, to turn down the music on a television. When Karpowich refused and the victim attempted to unplug the device, she allegedly punched him in the face, causing him to fall.
Winsor and Olson then pinned the victim’s arms. Winsor held the victim’s right arm, and Olson held his left, while Karpowich repeatedly punched the man in the head and groin. The victim, who was recovering from two back surgeries and a broken foot at the time, was later shoved over a small table. The impact broke the table and caused severe trauma to his torso.
The victim’s mother reportedly discovered Karpowich, Olson, and Winsor standing over the gasping victim without rendering aid. The man was hospitalized overnight with three ribs broken in four places, requiring him to use supplemental oxygen. He also suffered a black eye and severe bruising to his torso and groin.
During a phone interview with police, Winsor asked an officer what would happen if the three suspects’ stories matched. She then stated she was leaving for Texas for six weeks and hung up. Authorities subsequently issued a warrant for her arrest.
According to court records, Winsor is currently out of jail on $20,000 bail. She is scheduled to be sentenced March 23, and could face up to five years in prison.
On Feb. 2, Karpowich was ordered to serve 90 days in jail, followed by 48 months of probation, after pleading guilty to aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury and kidnapping, a second-degree felony. She was also ordered to complete an anger management course, have no contact with the victim, and complete substance abuse and mental health treatment.
Olson has been charged with aggravated kidnapping, a first-degree felony; and aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury, a second-degree felony. He has pleaded not guilty and is scheduled to appear again in court March 16.
