With the region title hanging in the balance, the Logan High girl’s soccer team took care of business for a 1-0 victory over Sky View to spoil the Bobcats Senior night Tuesday.

“Last game they scored off a corner in the third minute and then it was a dead heave back-and-forth,” Logan head coach Mitch Peterson said. “Today we got one and back-and-forth, back-and-forth. They are a great team.”

Logan set the tone early, earning a free kick in the ninth minute and a pair of corner kicks in the 10th and 11th minute. But the Grizzlies were unable to capitalize and the Bobcats stole the momentum.

In a back-and-forth battle, Sky View took control and created several opportunities, including forcing a diving save by Logan goalkeeper Samantha Agilar in the 15th minute.

But it was the Grizzlies who got the last laugh in the first half.

Just seconds before the halftime whistle and a free kick opportunity from 40 yards out, Jana McKay buried the shot from distance to put Logan up 1-0 at the intermission.

“They hit us with a beautiful shot, a perfect shot,” SV head coach Doyle Geddes said. “So you don’t hang your head here tonight because you did a all that you could do. This was two great soccer teams that went at each other.”

Sky View’s offense created four corner kicks in the second half, and generated eight shots, but the Bobcats could break through for the equalizer.

Logan improved to 11-3-0 overall, and 9-1-0 in Region 5 to secure the region title and No. 1 seed from the region in the state tournament. Sky View fell to 7-4-3 overall, and 5-3-2 in region action – one game back of Mountain Crest and the No. 2 seed.

The Grizzlies have two games remaining, with a visit to Roy on Thursday before returning home on Tuesday, Oct. 8 for senior night against Ogden.

Sky View hosts Mountain Crest on Thursday in a game that may determine the No. 2 seed, and face Box Elder on Thursday, Oct. 10 to close out the regular season.
