LOGAN, Utah (AP) — The Logan City Police Department (LCPD) is offering tips to help residents safely navigate online shopping this holiday season and avoid common scams.

The LCPD emphasized that shoppers should stick to trusted websites and treat deals that appear “magical” with suspicion. A key safety measure is checking the browser’s URL for the secure “little lock icon,” and ensuring the address begins with https:// for a secure connection.

Police advised against clicking links sent via random delivery texts or shipping emails, noting that scammers frequently impersonate delivery services. Shoppers should be cautious of unexpected notifications about delayed packages, especially those arriving late at night.

For payment, LCPD recommends using secure methods like credit cards, PayPal, or Apple Pay, as they typically offer better fraud protection than debit cards. Shoppers should also avoid making purchases while connected to public Wi-Fi networks.

Finally, police reminded consumers to regularly check bank and credit card statements to quickly identify and report any unauthorized charges. Authorities urged the public to “stay safe, shop smart,” and ensure their packages arrive exactly as ordered.
