LOGAN — A 41-year-old Logan man has been sentenced to jail for hiding cameras in a woman’s home and then threatening her and her family. Rafael William Dixon has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested Dec. 12.

Dixon was sentenced Monday, March 11, in Logan’s 1st District Court. He previously pleaded guilty to stalking, a third-degree felony; voyeurism and attempted implanting an electronic device, both class A misdemeanors; and attempted violation of a protective order, a class B misdemeanor.

According to prosecutors, the victim called Logan City Police officers Dec. 11, after finding several recording devices in her home. The devices had been placed in her bedroom, her juvenile daughter’s bedroom and a living room.

The victim explained how Dixon had spent the night unattended at the residence a week before. He reportedly admitted to setting up the cameras when confronted by the woman.

After finding the camera’s the victim left the residence. She told Cache County Sheriff’s deputies how Dixon began sending threatening messages throughout the day and night, a probable cause statement detailed.

More than 50 messages were sent, as the victim repeatedly asked Dixon to stop contacting her. Some of them included threats, telling the woman to enjoy the last few hours with her daughter.

During Monday’s sentencing, Dixon expressed apology to the victims and asked for their forgiveness. He said there was no excuse for his behavior, blaming his actions on fears he had of being alone.

Judge Spencer Walsh said Dixon’s actions were an “egregious violation of privacy, and totally inappropriate and criminal.” He noted though, evidence from prosecutors suggested that the defendant was not attempting to record the victims for any sexual deviancy.

Dixon was sentenced to 180 days but given credit for 90 days previously served. After being released, he will be on “zero tolerance” probation, and prohibited from having any contact with the victim.
