LOGAN — A 45-year-old Logan man has pleaded guilty to sexually assaulting a woman while she was asleep and identity fraud, in two separate cases. Jose Antonio Torres-Medina has been in the Cache County Jail since being arrested in February 2023.

According to court records, Torres-Medina appeared July 31 in Logan’s 1st District Court. He accepted a plea deal, pleading guilty to four counts of identity fraud and communication fraud, all second-degree felonies; and sexual battery, amended to a class A misdemeanor.

Prosecutors report a woman contacted Logan City Police officers in January 2023, explaining how she was sexually assaulted by Torres, who she had previously been in a relationship with. She described how on the night of Nov. 11, 2022, she had taken medication that left her feeling drowsy and dizzy. She stated how she went to sleep but later woke up to signs that she had been sexually assaulted.

Officers later questioned Torres. He said the sex was consensual, although he said the woman never spoke or did anything during the incident.

As the investigation continued, police found multiple false ID documents in Torres’ possession.

Court records show, Torres was previously arrested for physically assaulting the same woman. He also violated a protective order, she had filed against him.

Torres-Medina remains in jail, being held without bail. He is scheduled to be sentenced Sept. 25, and could face more than 15 years in prison.
