LOGAN — A 35-year-old Logan man has been arrested for allegedly molesting a 9-year-old girl repeatedly, according to police. Mauricio Carlos was booked Friday into the Cache County Jail.
According to an arrest affidavit, the alleged victim told an older sister that a man staying with their mother had been inappropriately touching her. The girl was later interviewed at the Cache Children’s Justice Center and disclosed that a man she knew as “Primo” had touched her.
The alleged victim said Primo would touch her breasts, stomach and genital area. She said it happened a lot and always over her clothing. The girl was visibly upset and crying during most of the interview, the report described.
The girl told Logan City Police officers that she didn’t know Primo’s real name but that he drove a green Nissan SUV.
Police went to the girl’s house and witnessed a man later identified as Carlos pull into the driveway and exit the driver’s side of a green Nissan SUV.
Carlos was questioned by officers, he claimed the victim was lying. He said the girl was making things up because she didn’t want to go to summer school. He then requested an attorney and the questioning ended, according to the affidavit.
Jail records show, Carlos was booked on suspicion of aggravated sex abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. He is being held in jail, pending arraignment on formal charges in 1st District Court.
Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
