LOGAN – The Cache County Republican Party will hold its 2026 Nominating Convention on Saturday, April 11.
That gathering of GOP precinct leaders and county delegates will take place at Ridgeline High School in Millville to select candidates to represent the Republican party in the upcoming state primary in June and the general election in November.
Credentialing of delegates will begin at 9 a.m. with party business to follow at 10 a.m., according to Natalie Levi, the chair of the Cache County Republicans.
The assembled GOP delegates will select their preference from among the fields of candidates in contested races for Utah State House District 5 and the post of Cache County Attorney.
The convention agenda also includes the county delegates affirming the candidates in uncontested races for county and state offices by voice vote.
In the House District 5 race, first-time candidate Jim Atkinson of Avon is challenging incumbent State Rep. Casey Snider (R-Paradise) for his seat in the Utah Legislature.
The candidates in the running for the post of Cache County Attorney are Interim County Attorney Dane Murray and local lawyers J. Brett Chambers and Chris Daines.
The local races in which GOP candidates are running uncontested include Bryson Behm for county clerk; Matthew Funk for county auditor; Chad Jensen for county sheriff; George Daines for county executive; JoAnn Bennett for the Logan District 2 seat on the county council; Sandi Goodlander for the Logan District 3 seat on the county council; Mark Hurd for the Northeast District 5 seat on the county council ; and Kathryn Beus for Southeast District 7 seat on the county council.
State races with uncontested candidates include Rep. Mike Petersen (R-North Logan) for Utah State House District 2 and Rep. Jason Thompson (R-River Heights) for Utah State House District 5.
The Republicans are also expected to ratify a slate of ex-officio delegates and consider bylaw and platform proposals.
