LOGAN — A 29-year-old Logan man already facing charges of domestic violence has now been arrested for an alleged rape more than seven years ago. Samuel Gordan Haws was booked Thursday, July 26, into the Cache County Jail.

Haws was arraigned Friday afternoon in Logan’s 1st District Court, appearing by web conference from jail. He was charged with one count of rape, a first-degree felony.

According to an arrest report, the Logan City Police Department began investigating the new case after the alleged victim reported being raped by Haws, who she was in a relationship with at the time. The incident occurred in January 2017.

The woman said Haws made advances towards her and she told him “no.” Despite repeatedly telling him to “stop,” he continued to force himself on her and raped her.

The alleged victim provided officers with a video she had taken in 2023, confronting Haws about the incident. During the confrontation, the suspect was seen explaining that his actions were inexcusable and probably caused a lot of harm, the probable cause statement detailed.

According to law enforcement, Haws was arrested for domestic violence against the same alleged victim in June. After being released on bail, he allegedly attempted to contact the woman multiple times.

Later when police attempted to contact Haws, he refused to comply and barricaded himself in his house. He was later arrested by officers during a high risk traffic stop.

During Friday’s arraignment, Judge Spencer Walsh ordered Haws to remain in jail and appear again in court July 31.

In addition to the newest case, Haws has three other cases pending. Charges include 15 counts of violating a court order and one count of property damage, all third-degree felonies; along with misdemeanors or infractions for disorderly conduct and violating a protective order.

Individuals arrested and charged in complaints are presumed innocent unless or until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in court.
