BRIGHAM CITY — People say one of Box Elder County’s biggest assets is its peaches, and one of its biggest celebrations is Peach Days, held in Brigham City on Labor Day weekend.
This year, there are as many as 200 vendors selling art, crafts and imported goods. There are also food trucks galore, with a variety of meals guaranteed to satisfy any appetite.
Friday, the historic Main Street will be covered with blankets and chairs for Saturday’s 10 a.m. parade.
The annual celebration started in 1904 as a way to celebrate an abundance of peaches harvested year after year. It has become a Northern Utah tradition and continues today.
Despite the late freeze, Tagge’s Fruit and Veggie Farms has a peach stand on the corner of Main Street and Forest Street. People are stopping by, making this the busiest time of year for fruit stands along the highway.
Tagge’s not only has fresh, hand-picked peaches for sale, but also peach jams, peach salsa and other peach specialties.
Generally, more than 35,000 visitors attend the celebration. Organizers are expecting nearly 1,000 cars for the Peach Days Free Car Show, which will be held at Watkins and Pioneer parks at 800 W. Forest St. The car show ends at 4:30 p.m.
There is also the Harley & Custom Bike Show on Saturday on Main Street.
There are two free concerts.
On Friday night, the free concert will feature The Salt Airs, The Boy in Blue and The Last Wild Buffalo. They will perform on the Main Street stage next to the Brigham City Academy Center, located at 58 N. Main St.
The concerts will begin at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday night’s free concert is sponsored by Autoliv. Maddie Wilson will perform. Wilson is a country/pop singer-songwriter and YouTuber who takes pop songs and gives them a country flair.
She has produced multiple indie chart-topping tracks and was ranked as the No. 1 international indie artist.
City of Fun Carnival will give children the thrill of riding a merry-go-round and teenagers the opportunity to enjoy more aggressive rides.
A quilt show will be held at the Utah State University Brigham City campus, 989 S. Main St., until 3 p.m. Saturday.
Parking downtown is limited. Gillies Funeral Chapel and Intermountain Health are offering a Peach Days shuttle service from the USU Brigham City campus to the downtown festivities.
There are 5K and 10K races on Saturday morning, starting at 8 a.m.
Several events take place throughout the week, but most of the activities are Friday atnd Saturday, Sept. 8 and 9. Festivities will take place from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. both days.
Brigham City Peach Days is an event that has been a cherished tradition for more than a century and is eagerly anticipated by locals and visitors alike. The festival takes place the weekend after Labor Day and serves as a vibrant tribute to the region’s agricultural heritage.
